Training on multimedia journalism, fact-checking
A daylong training programme on ‘Multimedia Journalism for Environmental Journalists’ was held at the auditorium of Stamford University Bangladesh at Siddheswari in the capital on 15 June 2023.
Inter Press Network-IPN and Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS) jointly arranged the training programme.
A total of 40 working journalists were trained in the daylong event. The working journalists participated in the training from various newspapers, TV channels and digital media.
They were trained on how to report on time using the fast and modern tools. The participants were also taught about responsible use of mobile journalism and fact-checking methods. During the programme, participants were informed about tools for visual and verification.
Professor Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, chairman of the Department of Environmental Science at Stamford University Bangladesh and founder of CAPS; inaugurated the training session as the chief guest with Ehsanul Haque Jasim, executive director of the IPN; in the chair.
Mohammad Mosharraf Hossainm, head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies; was present at the event as special guest. Kafayetullah Chowdhury Shakil, a director of the IPN; moderated the event.
Qadaruddin Shishir, a Dhaka based leading fact-checker and fact check editor in AFP’s Dhaka bureau; and Sabbir Ahmed, lead mobile journalist of Bangladesh Times; were the trainers in the daylong session.
The trainers emphasized on the importance of checking facts in digital media and equipped the participants with various tools used in fact-checking.
